Weekly Update: September 9th - 13th

Happy Friday!

Here is a look at one of the tasks we did this week - Mastery Comics!

Learning Intentions:

  • Create written texts for a variety of audiences and purposes.
  • Create written texts using a variety of forms and structures.
  • Use organizational tools to support the creation of written texts.
  • Include dialogue, punctuation and other literary devices to enhance written expression.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Circle of Courage and provide examples of each domain.

In Grade 3/4 we have been reviewing the four parts of the Circle of Courage: Belonging, Generosity, Independence and Mastery. We have read stories connected to each domain, and completed an activity to deepen our understanding. When looking at Belonging, students drew pictures of what Belonging looks like. After reading 'The Rainbow Fish,' students created their own skits that demonstrated Generosity. When discussing Independence, students wrote a list of things that they can do all by themselves. For Mastery, we tasked students with creating a comic that shows a character mastering a certain skill. Some students created comics of animals learning different skills, or characters learning to play different games or sports. Students worked carefully on their pictures and ensured they were incorporating dialogue and onomatopoeia (sound effect words) within their comics. Take a look at some of the comics below!

We will continue to discuss the Circle of Courage next week as we come up with a list of classroom expectations that we will have for one another connected to each domain.

Another fun activity from the week was our Number Line Challenges! Students had to write down a number within a specific range and then work together as a group to line themselves up from the smallest number to the biggest number without talking! Yesterday students created a number line using numbers from 1 - 100 000 and they did it without making any mistakes! They also did a wonderful job at reading their numbers aloud. Take a look at our number line below!

Reminders:
  • A lot of students are asking the office for extra snacks or food during the day. Please check in with your child to see if they need to bring more food to school.
Have a wonderful weekend!
