Weekly Update: May 20 - 23rd

Happy Friday!

Here is one of the activities we did this week: Field Trip to Telus Spark!

Learning Intentions:

  • Understandings of the living world, Earth, and space are deepened by investigating natural systems and their interactions.
  • The universe includes all of space and everything in it.
  • Objects in space include: the Moon, the Sun (a star), stars and their planets, planets and their moons
  • Most objects in space are more easily observed at night.
  • Technologies for viewing objects in space include binoculars, telescopes, planetariums
  • Observing objects in space helps us connect Earth to its place in the universe.
  • Compare observations of objects in space taken during the day and night.
  • Compare technologies for viewing objects in space.

We started our day by attending an Infinity Dome Show about Pluto.  It was amazing to see all the planets up above us and all around us, see their orbits and try to understand how planets came to be categorized as planets when there are so many things orbiting the sun.  Students then got to explore the many exhibits and go play at the outdoor playground.  There were VR experiences, gummy bear experiments, food exhibits, and lots of other fun things the kids got to experience. What was your child's favourite part of the trip? What was one new thing they learned? We had a blast and we hope your child did too :)

Reminders:
  • If you haven't returned your pink Lacrosse forms, please return them for Monday morning as our residency begins on Monday, May 26th.
If you have your police clearance and are available to volunteer on June 4th for our full school field trip, please sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/DY4CW
