Here is a look at the Literacy work we have been working on this week: Persuasive Writing!
Learning Intentions:
- Create written texts for a variety of audiences and purposes.
- Create written texts using a variety of forms and structures.
- Share perspectives on a topic in a clear and focused manner.
- Experiment with ideas and word choice to create beginnings that catch the audience’s attention.
- Use organizational processes, methods, or tools to support the creation of written texts and to develop creative expression.
This week we learned that to persuade someone is to try and convince them about a certain topic. We listened to various examples of stories where the narrator was trying to convince someone to get a certain pet, to eat a healthy meal etc. Students were introduced to persuasive vocabulary and phrases to help them plan their own persuasive paragraph convincing their audience of what the absolute best breakfast food is. Students used an O.R.E.O. planning sheet that helped them to organize their ideas through writing out their opinion, 3 reasons, 3 explanations for each reason and finally restating their opinion at the end. When students finish their paragraphs they will get rewarded with an Oreo cookie. Please feel free to take a look at these on our Google Classroom as they are typing out their good copies on there.
- Please read, sign and return the Alien In-line Forms ASAP.
- Your child should have brought home their good copy of their Goldilocks stories and feedback that I provided to them. Please take the time to look over the amazing work!
- We will have our Geometry Unit Test next week. Students should have brought home a review sheet that goes through various concepts from the unit this week. There are also new Pixel Art Mysteries on our Google Classroom that students can complete before the test. The test will cover the following concepts:
- Identifying polygons/non-polygons
- Identifying regular/irregular polygons
- Identifying parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines
- Finding 90 degree angles
- Describing features of polygons (ex. number of sides, type of lines, name of polygon, etc.)
- Identifying translations, rotations and reflections
- Comparing angles
- Determining complementary and supplementary angles (Grade 4)
- Identifying triangles based on side length or angles (Grade 4)
- Using a protractor to measure angles (Grade 4)
